The mountain bike routes follows different roads, from asphalt roads to rocky trails. Most of them have a relatively hard surface, and even in heavy rain it is possible to ride on them quite fast.
The terrain can be considered flat to hilly. Vertical drops up to 35 meters.
On maps, roads will be differentiated in seven different categories: asphalt roads, wide dirt or gravel roads, narrow dirt or gravel roads, simple dirt roads without gravel, trails, narrow paths and seasonal or overgrown roads or trails, which will be marked in green.
Roads which are marked in green are not rideable by bike. In the reality, your travel speed will not always depend on the category of road. On some the dirt roads you may travel faster than on gravel roads, for example, if they should have a lot of pits.
Gravel may lead to puncture of a tube. In some areas along the road there are waste dumps, where the probability to punture a tube due to lying around garbage is quite big.
Car traffic on asphalt and gravel roads is of low or average intensity during the day, of low intensity during the night. Definitely, it is necessary to be attentive when riding on car roads, especially when passing closed turns and sharp rises or descents.
Competitors should take into account, that Russian car drivers are not used to bikers on roads. This is why you should be aware of your own physical and mental condition and avoid roads with lots of traffic when overly fatigued.
Be aware even on forest roads, drivers may not expect to meet bikers and may not be attentative enough to pass by carefully.
Some of the check points are located quite far from the road and may be reached only by foot. We recommend that bicycles which are left on or near the road during registration at the check points are connected with a chain and locked.
